Tender towed 30,000 miles
Anyone who has rigged up a tow knows how fraught every second of the journey can be - will the rope hold? Am I going too fast? Did I give enough slack? Where has the boat gone? Etc…
So imagine how the skipper of the 95ft megayacht Maverick felt as he towed a 38ft sportsfisher 30,060 miles from Florida to Australia!
The incredible journey involved a passage through the Panama Canal, and stops at the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia, Fiji, New Zealand, and, ultimately, Australia.
According to the Holland Yachting Group, this was the first time such an extensive tow had ever been accomplished.
