Day 4 Channel Islands & West Country

Weatherbound but spirits remain high, the fleet spend another unexpected rest day in Cherbourg

Another early morning weather check confirmed the MBM team’s thoughts – the fleet would not be moving again today. Participants awoke to a cold, blustery morning with unwelcome heavy rain. It would be another day for pottering (and staying warm and dry) or exploring ashore in Cherbourg.

Some of the crews took some time out to walk around to the La Cite de la Mer museum to see the mighty French nuclear submarine La Redoutable. Elsewhere other boat crews booked hire cars to explore further a field.

At lunchtime there was a bit of a crowd gathering on Q pontoon. Graham from Rosie donned his swim shorts and a dive cylinder and got in the water to rectify a leg trim issue for fellow participant Sealine S38 Job Done. He grappled with the job for about 15 minutes in the freezing marina water but it was well worth the effort. After a shower and hot cup of coffee the job was, in fact, done!

By mid afternoon the sun had made its appearance and despite the blustery weather everyone was in high spirits, happy to be this side of the Channel and sampling the delights of France.

A briefing was held on the pontoon at 1800 FST regarding the outlook and itinerary for the next few days. The plan is to bypass Jersey and catch up with the schedule in Guernsey. The MBM team will check the weather again in the morning. If the weather is acceptable Time Flies will go out to make a final assessment on the conditions off Cap de la Hague.
