RNLI Photographer of the Year 2006
Today at the London Boat Show the RNLI announced the winner of their first 'Photographer of the Year' competition. This year 232 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland were issued with waterproof Pentax cameras to record rescues and exercises to assist with future training. The camera, the tough Pentax Optio Wpi is simple to use and on boats like the E-class are swivel mounted on the centre console where it can be used anytime.
The competition was won by Volunteer Portsmouth Senior Helmsman John Brooks, with what can only be described as a high action, extremely wet and dramatic shot, shown here. The camera lens spattered with sea spray and looks across the deck of the inflatable rescue boat at a fellow crewman with horrendous sea conditions in the background; a true testament of the dedication of the RNLI.
"Photographs and moving images taken on there station cameras are now instrumental in helping increase awareness of the charity" Andrew Freemantle, RNLI Chief Executive explained.
