Day 3 - Channel Islands & Brittany

49°11.00N 002°07.00W

The fleet awoke to a misty morning in Cherbourg; today they would make for Jersey and the port of St Helier. Blue Fin departed first at 0730 hrs as planned and was closely followed by the slower boats. Time Flies, with Ray and Claire aboard remained in port until all boats had departed Cherbourg.

Conditions in the Alderney Race were ideal with an extra 5-6 knots of tide carrying the boats south towards Jersey. By 0900 hrs bright sunshine broke through the mist and the dark shapes of Alderney and Sark could be seen in the distance. All boats had entered St Helier outer harbour by 12 noon; they refuelled and proceeded to the marina beyond. Crews had the afternoon to investigate new surroundings or soak up the sunshine.

A pontoon party was held at 1800 hrs; everyone ate, drank and shared stories of today's passage. Tomorrow is a rest day and crews have already made plans to hire cars, bikes and generally explore the numerous shops, museums and restaurants that St Helier has to offer.
