Day 6 - Channel Islands & Brittany

49° 46.88 N 003° 02.61 W

After a busy day yesterday there was a well-deserved lie in for the fleet this morning. It was a slightly cooler day by comparison to yesterday's scorcher. It had rained overnight and everyone awoke to a grey start to the day with threatening rain clouds looming overhead, but soon the sun broke through and remained for the rest of the day.

Another day of exploration lay ahead for the boat crews. Paimpol is the archetypal French town; cobbled back streets, colourful boutiques, art studios, boulangeries and a plethora of cafes and bistros. While some were content to sunbath and potter around the boats, others wandered around the town. A few crews ventured further a field by foot along each side of the approach channel. Robin from Pen Hannah cycled to Tour de Kerroc'h, a tower set to the north of the entrance. It was well worth the climb of over 100 steps to the top, apparently the views across the coastline were magnificent. Liz and John of Joli D did the same route by foot, while Pam and John from Penny Lane walked the circuit of the eastern peninsula.

A briefing was held on the pontoon at 1800hrs for the passage tomorrow to St Quay Portrieux. The weather is looking good again for tomorrow, but Cruise Leader Neale will check again in the morning. The plan for tomorrow is to depart just before high tide. The boats will begin to lock through at 1500hrs. Blue Fin will leave first to assist with moorings and fuel at the other end.
