Day 8 - Channel Islands & Brittany

48° 38.86 N 002° 49.17 W

It was a grey and chilly start to the day in St Quay Portrieux. The diesel pontoon was fixed early morning and the remaining boats fuelled and rejoined the fleet on the visitors' pontoon. Today was a rest day for the fleet, so it was a lazy day to explore new surroundings and a great day for maintenance and cleaning.

As the sun finally broke through the grey clouds participants walked into the small seaside town or took to the coastal path, and some ventured further afield to the Carrefour hypermarket to stock up with supplies. Graham and Val from Ozone took the bus to neighbouring market town of St Brieuc. The MBM team, currently three were kept occupied by a lengthy job list.

Kitaro II tested their engines early morning and the starboard engine failed to start. It was quickly diagnosed as a failed starter motor and with the help Gary and brother Derek of Seacrest the problem was rectified.

A briefing was held on the pontoon at 1800hrs detailing next move. Tomorrow afternoon the fleet will make for sleepy harbour town of Binic. The passage is just 5 miles and Neale has calculated the slowest boat will take just 21 minutes. Binic has drying outer harbour and a gated marina assessable only for a short period around highwater.
